Paul Humphreys is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Virginia. Recent publications include Extending Ourselves: Computational Science, Empiricism and Scientific Method (Oxford, 2004) and Emergence: Contemporary Readings in Philosophy and Science (co-edited with Mark Bedau, MIT Press, 2008).
