Nigel Cooke is a British painter widely known for his minutely detailed, large-scale canvases in which numerous smaller narratives play out amongst larger, overarching ideas. In the last few years Cooke’s critically acclaimed body of work has been exhibited in solo presentations at the Moderna Museet in Stockholm, the South London Gallery in London, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth in Texas and at Tate Britain. Cooke was born in Manchester in 1973, studied at The Royal College of Art from 1995–1997 and received his PhD from Goldsmiths in 2004. He has been represented by Stuart Shave/Modern Art since the gallery opened in 1998.
